Collaborative Evaluation
As the capstone to our semester-long project, our group conducted a collaborative evaluation of our finished product that is based off of the methods that we discussed in class concerning web content and design. We selected these particular methods, as they are familiar to all group members, as well as others within the field of library and information science. That is, these are aligned with the criteria information professionals often utilize when making initial evaluations of online resources. Authority, accuracy, usability, quality, currency and coverage are featured in regards to content; whereas design, information architecture, usability, user experience, functionality and universal access are showcased in regards to design. We opted for the templates provided in class, which reflect the aforementioned criteria.
Our evaluation process was fairly straightforward and involved each member of our group. We met via Blackboard and discussed each specification as it appears on the templates to reach a collective decision. Throughout our discussion, a designated group member noted our ratings in the templates proper, which are available below. The outcome of our evaluations are thus: content, 90% (non-weighted) & 83% (weighted); design, 82% (weighted). Overall, we are mostly pleased with our results. The evaluations highlighted our strong points, such as accuracy and usability, as well as brought other areas to our attention, such as universal access and motivation as user experience. In conclusion, we feel that our site is a well-researched and well-presented online information resource for library and information professionals seeking introductory materials in regards to network neutrality.
